New Alters can appear thanks to the Alter option and the Branching Procedure. They are copies of the main character of The Alters with their own unique abilities. In our guide, you will find a list of recommended Alters, which are worth choosing first in the quantum computer. They can unlock new game features, as well as make some tasks easier or quicker.
Jan Technician
This is the first Alter you will unlock. Conducting the branching procedure tied to it is part of the prologue.
The unique trait of the technician is a 50% increase in Efficiency When Doing Base Maintenance. In the early game you should assign him to mining (prioritize resources you have the least of) and crafting items at the workshop. This will allow the main character to focus on other things, such as exploring the planet.
Jan Scientist
This is one of several alters available in Act 1. You should definitely choose the scientist as one of the first Alters you'll get.
The Scientist is essential for developing new technologies after building a research laboratory. Neither the main character nor any other Alters can use the laboratory. Research projects can not only make the game easier, but also let you advance in the story. The Scientist should always work at the laboratory. You should only direct him elsewhere in case of emergencies.
Jan Refiner
- This is one of several Alters thematically tied to acquiring and processing resources.
- The Refiner has 50% more efficiency at refining enriched metals, which lets you obtain common resources - metals and organics. You should therefore build a refinery at your base. It should be the main workplace of this Alter, after you collect some enriched metals.
Jan Worker
- The unique feature of this alter is a 50% increase in workshop efficiency in your base.
- Having the worker will allow you to produce items faster, so the workshop should be his default workplace. Send the worker to other tasks (e.g. extracting resources) if there is currently no need to create items or if you have too few materials.
Jan Doctor
- The presence of the Doctor at your base will make it easier for you to keep all the Alters in good health.
- The doctor can treat alters 8 times faster in the Infirmary. His another feature is to also prepare food faster - this should be his main task when none of the alters need medical care. If you have excess food you can send him to do other tasks, preferably within the base so that he's always there in case of emergencies.
- You can unlock the doctor only at qubit level 3. We described this mechanics in more detail on the page How to increase the level of qubits?. However, do not wait to build the Infirmary, because Jan and other alters can also receive treatment there without the presence of the doctor.
