Just under a month ago, The Indie Stone released Build 42 of Project Zomboid, which introduced the ragdoll system among other things. Now, however, an unstable version 42.9.0 has appeared, introducing a new system of zombie spawn.

New features and changes in Project Zomboid 42.9.0

Below I have listed a few important changes. You can find the full list of fixes directly in the announcement published by The Indie Stone studio.

  1. So far, after loading the zombie group map, they usually appeared in similar numbers and more or less in the same places. Currently, the zombie spawn map will be generated automatically. The devs named the new system Zed Spawn Heat Map and made the spawn of the undead on the map dependent on the level of noise, range, and a special multiplier. For example, there will be more zombies in the military area, because it is a large territory, producing more sounds. Fewer walking corpses will appear in less-populated areas.
  2. Explosive materials, such as pipe bombs and aerosols, are now much more effective in inflicting damage and killing zombies.
  3. New hit animations have been added for the chest, arm, left and right sides, and also from the back.
  4. New sound effects for zombies hitting wood have been added to help players better distinguish them from those banging on doors.
  5. The state of the vehicle's active alarm is now being saved and restored, so there is no longer the possibility of exiting the game and reloading it in order to cancel it.
  6. The studio also fixed many bugs and improved the balance of gameplay.

Project Zomboid has been in early access since 2013, and there are no signs that the developers plan to release the full version of the game anytime soon.
